This Morning: Celebrating Rev. Park Chansup's 80th Birthday

by Lee Byung-chang

You rub and grind into a stone-lid

To make a hole

To see the sky through.

I'm thinking of you this morning.

While they count seeds in apples,

You count apples in seeds

And look up the Kenyan mountains.

I'm thinking of you again this morning.

You show us

How humans should overcome themselves

And enjoy free life beyond limitations,

Beyond the death.

In the tragic human world

Where they were born kings

But live as beggars and slaves,

You prove who Christians are:

We're not animals, fearful of the death,

But live our eternal life

Here and now.

This morning

I'm thinking of the saying:

The inferior man is full of anxiety;

The superior man is at peace.

Those who turn away from their treasure

And dig into trash cans

Live, in distress, their lives full of complaints,

But the great man is noble, generous, and open-minded.

The age misses a man at peace.

At eighty, you try to go to Pyongyang,

From Pyongyang to the peace of the universe,

And even to the Planet Hell to preach good news.

Dear Pastor, you are a relief to me.

I hope your steps on the Planet Earth

Will always be beautiful and peaceful.
